ABOUT Cadenhead

Founded in 1842 in Aberdeen, Cadenhead's is Scotland's oldest whisky bottler. They emphasize cask selection, spirit maturation, and uncovering hidden distilleries. With ownership of thousands of casks, continually replenished, they offer a wide array of cask choices, carefully selecting the optimal ones. True to their philosophy, they prioritize quality over quantity, focusing on releasing satisfying bottles with perfectly matured spirits. Furthermore, they value the decision-making process, not being swayed by factors like the age of maturation or whether the whisky was distilled in a renowned distillery. While it's easy to bottle enticing whisky from famous distilleries, Cadenhead's takes pride in discovering hidden gems from lesser-known distilleries.

The History

  • 1842: Founded in Aberdeen
  • 1904: Founder William Cadenhead passes away. Robert W. Dussey takes over the business.
  • 1931: The Great Depression causes business to deteriorate. Furthermore, Robert W. Dussey dies in a traffic accident. The business is passed on to Miss Ann Oliver, a long-time employee.
  • 1972: Further financial deterioration led Ms. Oliver to sell the business. An auction was held to sell all the liquor in the inventory, making it the largest liquor auction in history.
  • 1973: The business rights and facilities of Cadenhead are sold to J & A Mitchell & Co Ltd, the owner of Springbank Distillery. Since then, modern management has been maintained, and the business continues to expand to this day.
