ABOUT

At the southern end of the Lowlands, on the border with England, in Annandale, the distillery resumed operations in November 2014 for the first time in about 100 years. Originally a distillery of the same name opened on the site in 1836, it was acquired by the John Walker Company in 1896 and became Johnnie Walker's original distillery. It was then closed in 1916 due to aging equipment and other reasons. In 2010, David Thomson, a local resident of Oxfordshire, and his wife, Theresa Church, bought it with the desire to revive an active single malt distillery in Lowland, and it is famous for spending about 2 billion yen and 3 years to rebuld it. Miraculously, the building remained as it was at the time of its founding and was designated as a historical building, so it took more money and years than to build a new one.
In June 2018, their single malt was released, using both peated and non-peated malt as raw materials. Both are spirits intended to become single malt whisky, with the non-peated version branded as 'Man O’ Words' and the heavily peated version as 'Man O’ Sword,' marking a memorable release.
